Gabriel Maldonado's Bio:
Gabriel Maldonado, CEC, CCA Executive Chef, New Bern Golf and Country Club, New Bern, NC
Gabriel Maldonado, CEC, CCA Executive Chef, New Bern Golf and Country Club, New Bern, NC Gabriel was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1975. In 1995 he was given an opportunity to come to the United States to work, not knowing a word of English. In Long Island, New York, he worked under CMC John Johnstone and performed many different jobs in the kitchen. He achieved the title of Lead Line Cook and then worked up to Sous Chef. Chef Gabriel then accepted a position as Sous Chef at Meadow Brook Club and worked with Executive Chef Fred Newland. Then he began working at the Rockaway Hunting Club as Executive Chef. In 2004, he graduated form the French Culinary Institute in classic culinary arts. In the fall of 2007, he moved to New Bern to take the Executive Chef position at New Bern Golf and Country Club. He received the title of Certified Executive Chef from the American Culinary Federation in January 2008. Gabriel is one on only 2600 certified chefs in the U.S. Gabriel continued his education in 2009 and became a Certified Culinary Administrator. Throughout his career, Chef Maldonado has received many awards and won numerous medals in cooking competitions. He is a member of the American Culinary Federation of Eastern North Carolina, where he helps new generations of cooks and chefs further their knowledge in the culinary field. Gabriel competed in the first ever “Culinary Combat” at Taste of Coastal Carolina in 2009 where his team took first place.
