"Ice from the mountain tastes sweeter."

Filmed in the Peruvian Andes, this rhythmic documentary illuminates the process of making a colorful shave ice called Shkashka.  To make it one family must journey afoot to the glacial apron of a mountain where they cut enormous blocks of ice with axe and bare hands.  Shikashika is sold at the steps of a cathedral in the valley far below.

The documentary "Environmental Heroes" profiles three North Carolinians who are making extraordinary efforts to protect the natural environment.  The three environmental heroes include:
  • Dean Brooks, a former dairy farmer from Goldston, NC, in Chatham County who started and runs one of the largest compost businesses in the southeastern US.
  • Gary Grant, a community activist from Tillery, NC, in Halifax County who has worked for decades to protect his African-American farming community from polluting industries such as corporate hog farms.  He led the fight to institute a hog farm moratorium in North Carolina.
  • Todd Miller, founder and executive director of the North Carolina Coastal Federation in Newport.
