The RIVERKEEPER® Film Festival celebrates its fourth year of showcasing some of the best in documentary and independent films from around the world, including one from North Carolina filmmaker Rooster Minges.  The Festival is presented by the Neuse River Foundation, a nonprofit organization created in 1980 to address water quality issues in the Neuse River basin.

This coming January, Festival-goers may be taken on a journey to the sea-loving nation of Vietnam in a new documentary by explorer Jon Bowermaster in Descending the Dragon, or may visit with New Zealand sand artist Peter Donnelly in Sand Dancer.  Other highlights include three animated films featuring a penguin that loves to surf, two lovers separated by the sea, and a jazzy blend of art and music on the Yuba River.

Created in 2005, the Neuse RIVERKEEPER® Film Festival has expanded its audience while maintaining a friendly, intimate atmosphere by selecting local community theater venues throughout the Neuse River basin.  The January 2009 schedule includes screenings in the communities of Durham, Raleigh, Smithfield, Kinston, New Bern and Oriental.  Due to time constraints, the program selection will vary by venue.  Tickets ($10) are good at all locations and include admission to a pre-film reception.  Click here to for details.
