Second Annual Neuse River Fall Float took place on October 2, 2009 Kinston-Lenoir County Neuse River Fall Float was a four hour, 12 mile canoe and kayak trip showcasing the beauty of the Neuse River in Lenoir County.
Lenoir County tourism director Lucy Marston provided the promotional materials and directed the event. We cannot thank her enough for her hard work and dedication to the City of Kinston and the Neuse River.
The 57 paddlers assembled at the Neuseway Nature Center and Campground on Friday morning, then were taken by bus to a private landing about 12 miles upriver. Once they arrived at the private landing, they were greeted by a support staff of 30 people and 50 canoes and kayaks. The support staff , canoes, and kayaks were provided by Kinston-Lenoir County Parks and Recreation, Riverside Bicycles and Outdoor Sports of Kinston, and the Neuse RIVERKEEPER® Foundation.
Once everyone was situated in their canoes and kayaks, the group made their way about six miles downriver. This was a scheduled stop where paddlers rested and enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Kings Restuarant and drinks provided by Pepsi.
After a terrific meal, the group paddled another six miles downriver, completing the paddle at Neuseway Nature Center and Campground.
The Neuse RIVERKEEPER® Foundation and Hugo Vlounteer Fire and Rescue Department provided emergency services, assisted paddlers, and ensured the safety of all participants.
Lower Neuse Riverkeeper Larry Baldwin and Bert Statum, owner of Riverside Bicycles and Outdoor Sports of Kinston served as the paddle guides.
