Daniel Dunn's Bio:
Daniel Dunn Competing Chef for The Flame New Bern
Competing Chef for The Flame New Bern I was born in Frederick, Maryland a young boy with big dreams. I lived there through high school and worked at a local pizza shop using all fresh ingredients. Through hard work and dedication I progressed up to managing the store. At the time I had never once considered cooking as a profession, just simply a means of making money. When I was about 20 years old I moved to North Carolina looking for a change and got a job at a local restaurant. The restaurant was The Flame and here I developed a love for culinary arts. Under the teachings of veteran skilled cooks I harnessed my skills and knowledge of culinary arts. I worked the grill at the Flame for two years and also helped with caterings banquet events. Now attending Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute I have completed my freshmen year of almost entirely culinary labs and am nearly done with my sophomore year of labs and technical courses for restaurant management. By May 2010 I will have received an Associates Degree in culinary arts and will then step into the endless world of restaurants and food service. One day I would like to open, design menus for and manage several restaurants with the skills I’ve learned over the years through Johnson & Wales and The Flame Restaurant. I will forever remain indebted to Chef Smoke at The Flame for opening my eyes to my passion for culinary arts and intend to represent them proudly at all times. I am truly honored to be asked to do so in the Taste of Coastal Carolina competition.
